When the guests arrive, make certain that they have an envelope or tag securely attached to the gift. If not, please provide them with a tag or envelope. You want to make sure that mom knows who gave what. Otherwise when it comes time to send out those thank-you notes, see will be totally lost. The last thing the guest of honor needs is some unnecessary frustrations. She has enough of them already that are not preventable. Good! We have that out of the way.

On one hand it is very good inexpensive idea, while on another everything in the baby bath tub will be used by the mother and her baby. Unlike baby clothes, you need not to worry about if the baby is a boy or a girl.

Looking for some unique yet inexpensive examples? Give the parents coupons for babysitting. If this is their first child, one free evening or weekend day will be plenty to entertain them. As an added value give them two tickets to the movies at a local theatre. These would be very thoughtful, also giving the parents a night out without looking for a sitter.

Be careful with this one though. Sometimes the recipient doesn't quite understand the nature of the gift. My brother gave a similiar gift to our grandmother one christmas several years ago. She didn't quite understand what was going on. It was a little awkward for awhile. So think about the person you are giving this type of gift to.

Don't worry too much, most mothers would love to have a gift of this nature. I know that I would have when I was a father with two little ones at home. Oh, the nights that we couldn't go anywhere. My wife would have loved to received a baby shower gift of that nature.

Moving on. Another option would be to give a few vouchers and coupons to the guest of honor. This way mom can go shopping when it is convenient for her, and she will be able to get something that wasn't already given. No duplicates this way.

Yet another idea for a unique item that doubles as a centerpiece would be a diaper cake. These can be put together on your own, or purchased for as little as $10. Of course, if you want to splurge, they can cost upwards of $150 or more.

My son is going to have a baby sometime this summer. Guess what? The due date is my birthday. This will be my second grandchild. Oh my, am I getting old or what?
