Baby Shower Menu Planning

Google

A Baby Shower Menu generally consists of finger foods and cake served with something light to drink. However, this doesn’t mean that the food you serve has to be boring and unappealing. Here are some tips as well as some easy ideas to spice things up.

Tips on planning the
Baby Shower Menu:

  • Don’t think in terms of a sit down meal or an elaborate buffet. Think in terms of finger foods, dips, cakes, desserts and punch.

  • Simple foods at the babyshower can be made to look very attractive by adding baby accessories and doo-dahs. Don’t try to play Martha Stewart. Stick to things you know.

  • The Baby Shower Menu should reflect the theme to make it more fun. If you are not having a theme then simply ‘baby’ up the food.

  • Keep in mind the number of guests you are inviting. If there is a large number then keep it simple to something that can be prepared before the guests start to arrive.

  • Also, if you are having the party in the open like a garden party then you will want to skip curd-based foods on your baby shower menu. Curd and cream will sour if left in the open too long.

    3 easy recipes to include
    in the Baby Shower Menu:

    1. Red Watermelon Pram Salad:
Take a large watermelon that is long in shape rather than round. Leave the bottom half intact. Cut out about 70 percent of the top half of the watermelon so that you have a baby carriage or pram shaped watermelon. Scoop out the inside of the watermelon and use it to make the salad. Make a nice salad of your choice. Serve it in the watermelon pram. To make the wheels of the pram cut 2 oranges into 4 halves and attach to the sides of the pram with toothpicks. Voila! A simple salad looks refreshingly delicious.

    2. Cake-A-Block:
Bake a cake and put it in the freezer for a few hours to firm it up. Remove it and cut out 4-5 square blocks from it. Decorate each block with white icing like children’s building blocks. You can even spell the word ‘baby’ or the mother’s name with the blocks.
Variation: Instead of just 4-5 blocks you may want to create as many blocks as you are having guests. Then use these cake blocks to create a wonderful centerpiece for the food table.

    3. Veggie delite:
You’ll need lots of raw vegetables and a nice dip. Choose a dip that is slightly tangy to ensure that the mother-to-be is able to keep it down. Make sure you pick vegetables with lots of different colors. Red, green and yellow bell peppers, orange carrots, green broccoli, white cauliflower florets, orange carrots, light green celery sticks and the like. Add a nice white dip to this. Arrange the vegetables on a pretty platter and serve.
You could also choose to serve this on a baby food tray. Optionally place little baby items amidst the salad like small teethers and rattles, diaper pins and the like.
